Charlotte O. Hoeglund age 101 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 6, 2021 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Charlotte Oline Hoeglund was born May 18, 1920 in Fargo, ND to Nels and Mabel (Patterson) Hoeglund. She moved to Detroit Lakes as a young girl, where she grew up and attended school. She grew up and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1938 as valedictorian. She then worked for three years as secretary to the High School principal George Simson. In 1941 she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the National Housing Agency. In 1947 she moved to San Francisco to work as secretary to the Deputy Director of the Federal Housing Agency. In 1951 she moved back to Detroit Lakes to help her dad in the Hoeglund Insurance Agency. Charlotte moved back to Washington D.C. in 1961 and worked as an office manager for an attorney who worked in housing and urban renewal. She retired in 1982 and moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1986.
Charlotte loved to travel and took many extensive trips in North America, Europe, the Middle East, New Zealand, and Australia. She was very active in First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, serving in her women’s group, sewing, and quilting. She was also a member of the American Legion and Emmanuel Nursing Home Ladie’s Auxiliarys.
She is survived by a brother, John (Judith) Hoeglund, of Detroit Lakes; two nephews; and a very special cousin, Louanne Patterson Gerdes and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Roger Hill.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday October 13, 2021; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
