Conrad Clarence Junior Ohm

Conrad Clarence Junior Ohm, 87, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. 

Conrad was born on December 27, 1931 in Winfield, Kansas.  He was the son of Conrad and Hilda Ohm.  He graduated from St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas and received a B.A. from Emporia State, Emporia, Kansas.  Conrad served in the Navy for two years during the Korean War.

He married Ruth Kuhlmann on November 28, 1959.  They helped his parents run “Ohm Sweet Ohm” resort in Shoreham, MN.  In 1966 Conrad and Ruth purchased the resort and eventually changed the name to The Village Resort.  They had three children: Michael, Rachael and Martin.  They sold the resort in 1978 and moved just outside the city limits of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  Conrad began his own accounting/bookkeeping business and taught at the Vo-Tech.  After Ruth’s death on November 4, 1996, he continued his accounting business and spent time golfing and promoting the Detroit Lakes Curling Club.  Conrad married Eleanor Lueker on August 5, 2006; she passed away on March 7, 2013.

He served many years on the Township Board and was Becker County Auditor for two four-year terms.  Conrad was a supporter and participant for the County Museum Board and Historical Society.  Conrad was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, involved with council and many other activities. He had a passion for golfing, curling and the American Legion.  Conrad enjoyed playing cards and cherished time spent with his family.

Conrad is survived by his children, Michael (Cheryl) Ohm of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Rachael (Jay) Petersen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Candace (Hudson) Matundura; Nicholai Ohm; Emily and Jenna Petersen; two great grandchildren, Michaela and Sebastian Matundura.  Conrad is also survived by three siblings, Arleen Otte; Rolland (Sheryl) Ohm; and Bernita (Rev. Richard) Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
