Craig L. Orum

Craig Laurel Orum, 65, passed away, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home in rural Detroit Lakes.   Craig was born September 25, 1953 in Lime Springs, IA, to Robert and Loretta June Orum. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1971 and continued his schooling at Rochester Community College. He held many positions over the years, including owning his own window washing business in Detroit Lakes and developing property in Belize. Most of his life was spent in northwestern MN where he enjoyed country life, mushroom hunting, and gatherings with friends, watching Minnesota sports, and listening to good music. He was well known for his wit, his love for friends and family, and his ability to turn any event into a story.   Craig was united in marriage with Deb Smedstad at their family built log-home in Osage, MN. They were later divorced. Craig is survived by his daughter, Emily Badger (Mike) and two grandchildren, Beau and Evan of Rochester; his mother Loretta June Orum of LeRoy; two sisters, Barb Milburn (Steve) of Rochester, Gail Dahlby (Donovan) of Northwood, Iowa; a brother, Don Orum (Judy) of LeRoy and a sister-in-law Linda Orum of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Orum and a brother, Ron Orum.   A memorial service for Craig will be held at the Wes-Kjos Funeral home in Detroit lakes on Friday, February 16 from 5 to 7. Friends will gather at Charlie’s Bar and Grill on Saturday, February 17 from 3-5 to remember Craig with a potluck. A Celebration of Life will also be held at a later date in LeRoy, MN.
