Daniel Scott Krengel was born June 24th, 1964, to Kenneth and Patricia (Swangstue) Krengel in St. Paul, MN, the middle child of 3 boys. After graduating high school, Dan worked construction and was always proud to talk about how he helped build the Mall of America. In 1986 Dan moved to Detroit Lakes to be near family, and in 1988 he met the love of his life, Machelle (Chelly) Jones. Dan and Chelly dated for several years and on September 1st, 1990, were united in marriage. The couple made their home in the Twin Cities until 1992 when they returned to Detroit Lakes, and it has been their home ever since. Dan worked for Herzog roofing, and later BTD manufacturing, while Chelly worked in the childcare field. In 1994 they welcomed a son Carter, and in 1999, a daughter McKenna. They were his pride and joy. Dan especially enjoyed taking them camping and attending their sporting events. In May of this year Carter and his wife Madeline gave birth to their first grandchild, Alfred (Alfie). Dan couldn’t wait to teach Alfie how to fix things and do all the things that Papa’s do. Dan and Chelly’s daughter McKenna is engaged to her fiancé Morgan and Dan was looking forward to their father-daughter dance with his “ladybug”. He also enjoyed the many daycare children that passed through Chelly’s daycare from 1995-2015. Dan was most recently employed by Team industries in Detroit lakes where he spent the past 17 years and was a hard-working, dedicated employee. He was affectionately known by his family as “Mr. Fixer” and loved to fix things and help others. He loved to play pool, golf, dance, and was also known for his karaoke rendition of “Chantilly Lace” which he loved to sing. Dan’s famous big hugs, boisterous laugh and I love you’s will be missed by so many. His big buddy Sota will never forget their special playtimes together.
Dan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Machelle (Chelly) Krengel, son Carter (Madeline) Krengel, daughter McKenna (fiancé Morgan Stelzer) Krengel, grandson Alfred Krengel, brother Michael (Janet) Krengel, sister-in-law Carla (Timothy) Krengel, mother-in-law Karen Jones, brother-in-law Tony (Michon) Jones, sister-in-law Michelle (Joel) Fischer. Cousins Jason (Danielle) Swangstue, and Shannon (Mark) Love. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who all held a very special place in his heart.
Preceding Dan in death is his mother Patricia Johnson, brother Timothy Krengel, infant nephew Tyler (son of Timothy and Carla Krengel), father-in-law Monte Jones and Dan’s little buddy Jonesy.
