Darlene M. Hanson age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 11, 2020 in Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Darlene Mae Vanderpoel Hanson was born April 2, 1938 in Hancock, MN to Glenn and Bernice (Bouma) Vanderpoel. They moved to Becker County when she was 6 months old and resided on a farm outside of Callaway, MN. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1957. On December 2, 1961 she was united in marriage to Maynard Hanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church Shell Lake. She worked as a sales clerk for Blanding’s and Norby’s Department Stores in Detroit Lakes. She was an Avon and Studio Girl Consultant for many years. After the birth of her daughter she became a full time Homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter, Twyla Kay (Glen) Bucholz; granddaughter, Tonya Strom; grandson, Tyler Sather; two great grandsons, Peter Allan and Jackson Strom, all of Detroit Lakes, MN.

Those who have gone before her waiting to welcome her home are her parents, Glen and Bernice Vanderpoel; her husband, Maynard Hanson; and grandson in law, Justin Strom.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday September 16, 2020; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
