David J. Behl, age 83 of Detroit Lakes, MN died July 16, 2020 at his residence, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
David James Behl was born August 25, 1936 in Grand Forks, ND to George C. and Alma (Dallum) Behl. He grew up and received his education in Grand Forks. On May 8, 1965 he was united in marriage to Betty Holm in Grand Forks. They made their home in Grand Forks and he established Behl’s Photography, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1992. Following retirement, they moved to Detroit Lakes. David drove bus for the Detroit Lakes School District for twenty years and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Some of his many passions include, vintage tractors, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and Hockey, which he both watched and played. He was also an active member of the Lion’s Club and Sons of Norway. David loved his family very much and enjoyed watching his grandson play football. He also enjoyed visiting with relatives.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Nancy (Joe) Garcia, of Grand Forks, ND; one son, Scott Behl, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one grandson, Jonan Garcia, of Grand Forks, ND; one sister, Muriel Folson, of Grafton, ND; one brother in law, Robert Hale Sr., of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Yvonne Johnson, Eleanor Nelson, and Elaine Hale; and two brothers, George E. Behl and John Behl.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
