Delmoure Harry Hultgren

Delmoure “Red” H. Hultgren, 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on June 10, 2022, at Oak Crossing. Del was born on February 1, 1936, to Harry and Alpha (Anderson) Hultgren in Karlstad, MN. He was one of ten children that grew up on the farm. After high school, Del attended Mayville State University in Mayville, ND where he met the love of his life, Garnet Rude. They were married on June 27,1959. Del taught for a while after school, then went on to further his education. He attended UND to receive his Master’s in Education. Eventually, Del and Garnet settled in Detroit Lakes, MN and had two children, Kirk and Krista. Del and a partner started the Mahube Community Council, and he was instrumental in the development and success of the MMCDC. Del also ran a business in Michigan with his brothers for 30 years.  Del returned to teaching as a substitute, which he loved.  Del was passionate about helping others and serving his community. He retired in 2015 and continued to enjoy being part of the choir at First Lutheran Church and spending time with his wife and children. 

Del is survived by his wife of 63 years Garnet (Rude) Hultgren, children Kirk (Cheryl) Hultgren, Krista (Deanna) Naber, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and brother Dayton (Ruth) Hultgren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Alpha Hultgren and 8 siblings. 

To honor Del, the family asks, that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mayville State University Foundation for student scholarships in Del’s honor or to the family to be used as desired.
