Donald Dahring

Donald (Don) Dahring was born on July 13, 1937, to Florence (Mann) and Paul Dahring.  He passed away on July 7, 2022, after a fun-filled vacation with family.

Don grew up on the family farm in Vergas, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN.  He graduated from Frazee-Vergas High School in 1955 where he was on the track team for four years.  In 1955, they won the 88 relay.  Don individually qualified for state by placing in the 100- and 220-yard dashes. He held the school record for many years, and was very proud of his accomplishments.

On September 24, 1960, Don married Elaine Anderson of Audubon, MN.  They were blessed with six children and were married for 61 years. He loved his family and was proud of them.

Don worked for many years at National Food Store, Piggly Wiggly, and Groves-Kelco as assistant manager.  In 1971, he began working as an Independent Sales Agent for Lawson, Inc. out of Illinois.  From 2002 until 2021, he continued part-time as a salesman for Winzer.  On the side, Don farmed and raised beef cattle in Callaway, MN.  He was on the Becker County Auxiliary Police for 22 years and in the National Guard for 5 years. His bootcamp unit was A53 at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri from March 7th, 1959 to September 6th, 1959.

Don loved to tell stories, especially deer stories with family, friends and anyone that would listen.  He hunted for over 70 years.  Lifetime interests were hunting deer, elk, turkeys, ducks, geese, and fishing.  Don was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and thoroughly enjoyed Bible Study.  He loved spending time with family and friends, helping with projects, playing cards, going for walks, and enjoyed raising animals on his small farm.  But most of all, family was his world.

Don is survived by his wife Elaine, his six children; Michael (Sue), Steven (Sharon), David (Sandy), Kimberly (Jack) Blaydes, Susan (Craig) LaPlante, and Daniel (Andrew), his grandchildren; Stephanie, Shane (Erin) great granddaughter Maisy, Brandon (Kendra), Ariel (Bryce), Hannah, Casey, Dawson, and Matthew; His sister Lucille Anderson, brother’s in-law Ted (Kay), Arthur (Mary), Roger (Karyl), Clarence (Kathy), and Chuck (Jayne) along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister’s Pearl and Alvina and brothers; Richard, Lawrence, and Merton.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 16, 2022; 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Frazee, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church. Interment will be in the Chilton Cemetery, Frazee, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
