Edwin Glander

December 2, 1938 — March 8, 2019

Edwin Glander, 80, of rural Frazee passed away on Friday, March 08, 2019, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 14, at 5 pm at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.  Visitation will be from 3-5pm on Thursday, March 14, at West- Kjos Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Spring. Edwin Gustav Glander, the son of Henry and Fannie (Heinonen) Glander, was born on December 2, 1938 in the car on the way to the hospital in  Detroit Lakes, MN.  Edwin was raised in the rural Frazee, Toad Lake Township area.  He worked as a farm hand growing up until he was old enough to work as a heavy equipment operator for several road construction crews.  His latest job was  working for Perham Sand and Gravel which he had to leave due to illness.  Ed enlisted in the United States Army in August 1958 and he was honorably discharged in August 1964. Ed met his future wife at a mutual friend’s home.  On June 12, 1967, Ed was united in marriage to Barbara Bennor, to this union two children were born, Darlene and Amanda.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and fixer of all things broken or not. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was on a pool league at the Northern Inn, Shell Lake and Pink cabins. Deeply loved, Ed’s passing is mourned by his children Darlene Smith and Amanda Lindeman; grandkids Heather  Dakota and Courtney;  brothers James, John (Emilie), Clarence, Henry (Sharon), Thomas (Cathy), Gary (Mary), Gene, Donald (Ann), and Roger; numerous nieces, nephews and    extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Fannie Glander; wife of 42 years Barbara; brothers Kenneth, Lowell, Dale, and Ralph; sister Adeline Westphalen.
