Ellen Johnson

May 30, 1920 — April 8, 2018

Ellen Josephine Johnson (nee Haukedahl) Ellen Josephine Haukedahl was born on May 30, 1920, to Eric and Ella Haukedahl. She grew up on the family farm near Audubon and graduated from Audubon High School. On September 3, 1941, she married Donald Johnson in Detroit, Michigan, where they worked during World War II. They moved back to Minnesota, living in Felton, Lake Park and, for most of their years, in Audubon. Donald and Ellen had four children: Donna, Bud (Wayne), Julie, and Jay. Ellen worked as a secretary at the Felton Public School, as a teller at the First State Bank of Audubon, and as bookkeeper for Haukedahl Trucking and the Audubon Truck Stop. After retiring, she managed the Zephyr Estates apartment building. She was active at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in the public schools while her children attended, and at the Audubon Senior Center. In 2000, she was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of Becker County for her work in the community. In 2006 Ellen moved to Spring Valley, Minnesota, to live with Donna and Neil. Two years ago she entered the Spring Valley Senior Living care center and touched staff and residents alike there. She passed away April 8, 2018, one month before turning 98. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters June and Geraldine, and brothers Eugene, Russell, and Cameron. She is survived by her children: Donna (Neil) Lien, Wayne (Ruth) Johnson, Julie (Ron) Nelson, and Jay (Holly) Johnson; three sisters: Arlis Froysland, Betty Ann Hoernschmeyer, Gertrude Stromme; one brother: Ron (Geri) Haukedahl; two sisters-in-law: Carol Haukedahl and Evelyn Johnson. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. We will miss Mom’s presence, but countless memories comfort us and make us smile. Her influence and values will live on in our family. And we look forward to the day when we will all be reunited for eternity. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon on Friday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m. with reviewal beginning at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by West Kjos Funeral
