Eugene A. “Shorty” Amundson age 72 of Detroit Lakes, MN died July 15, 2020 at his residence.
Eugene Allan Amundson was born December 12, 1947 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Richard and Frances (Schumann) Amundson. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, Graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1965. He then served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. In 1973 he was united in marriage to Audrey Klimek. They made their home in Melrose, MN, where Shorty worked as a mechanic in a trucking firm that his stepbrother owned and operated. They moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1974. Over the years he worked as a carpenter and as a mechanic. He later worked at the Northside Bar for twenty years until retirement.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was known to be able to build or fix almost anything.
He is survived by one son, Allan Amundson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one granddaughter, Phallian Potter, of Frazee, MN; one stepbrother, Charles (Mary) Gebeke, of Melrose, MN; one sister, Linda Ketola, of Eveleth, MN; two nephews, Daniel Ketola and Michael Ketola; and two step nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday July 24, 2020; 9:30 a.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, MN.
