Obituary & Life Tribute
Today we celebrate the life of Evelyn Ruth Stene, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Evelyn went to be with Jesus on July 9, 2025. She was 84 years old.
Born on August 29, 1940, to Albert and Mary Pauls. She was the oldest of five children. Evelyn was raised in a home anchored in faith. Her life's mission was clear: to know Christ and make Him known—starting with her own family. Evelyn was the proud mother of seven daughters, and nothing mattered more to her than seeing each of them walking with Jesus.
Her greatest legacy is her faith in Jesus that she nurtured in her children and everyone she met.
She is survived by 6 of her 7 daughters: • Laurie (Heinz) Gabel, Oley, PA • Monica (Terry) McLuckie, Vancouver, BC • Denise (Tim) Wehrkamp, Brandon, SD • Wendy (Tim) Gordon, Detroit Lakes, MN • Melody Butterworth, Sioux Falls, SD • Jaunita Marth, Park Rapids, MN
13 Grandchildren: Michael, Steven, Nicole, Daniel, Mark, Jodi, Adam, Aaron, Anthony, CJ, Seth, Jimmy, and Sara. Many beautiful great grandchildren, also, her two sisters, Anna Tyson and Rose Edgington and two brothers Glen Pauls and Wes (Linda) Pauls.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary Pauls; her cherished daughter, Ramona Arnold; her daughters’ father Oscar Marth and brothers-in-law Ken Edgington and Chuck Tyson.
A Legacy of Faith
Evelyn lived with her Bible open and her heart available. She accepted Jesus into her heart at the age of 8 and from then on felt a calling to be a missionary. She realized that after she had her 7 girls that her daughters were her mission field. She had a ministry of always being ready to sit, listen, pray, and point others to Christ. Whether in the pews at church, singing in her kitchen, or praying over the phone with a friend, Evelyn walked out her faith with conviction and joy!
She was known for her gentle words, her strength in trials, her unwavering prayer life, and her belief that no one was beyond the reach of God’s grace. If you met Evelyn, you likely heard her say something about Jesus—and felt deeply loved while she did. She would always share her belief that the BIBLE was truly the B-basic, I-instruction, B-before, L-leaving, E-Earth.
Evelyn has finally completed her mission here on earth and is now in heaven hearing the sweet words of Jesus “Well done good and faithful servant ………. Enter now into the joy of the Lord.” Matthew 25:23
