Evelyn “Evie” Margaret (Meyhoff) Svare, 83, of Audubon, MN, passed away at her son’s home under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Evelyn was born on February 6, 1938 in Center, ND, to John and Alma (Reineke) Meyhoff. She moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, in 1947. Evelyn was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in 1953.
On April 14, 1956, she was united in marriage to Charles S. Svare at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived in Detroit Lakes, until 1969, when they bought a hobby farm in the Big Cormorant Lake area south of Audubon. They were blessed with three sons, Charles, Timothy, and Jeffrey.
In 1990, Charles retired, and they moved to Minneapolis, MN, to run a storage and U-Haul business for seven years before returning home again, to their hobby farm. Evelyn worked at Swifts for many years, S.J.E. Systems for seven years, and then Team Industries for ten years before retiring in 2007.
Evelyn loved staying home with her husband and enjoying life with him, going hunting, fishing, and golfing. Evelyn always had a big garden and enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables. She also made her own sauerkraut, which everyone loved. Evelyn always kept busy. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deeply loved, Evelyn’s passing will be mourned by her sons Charles (Kim) Svare, Timothy (Brenda) Svare, and Jeffrey (Beth) Svare, her 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, twin-sister Frances (Dave) Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
She is greeted in Heaven by her husband Charles S. Svare (2011), her parents John and Alma, and her three brothers Walter, Melvin, and Clarence.
Services will be on Saturday, June 5, 2021; 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN, with the visitation beginning two hours prior. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
