Gerald “Red” Sloan passed away on December 21, 2020, at Detroit Lakes, MN.  He was born September 7, 1932, to George R. Sloan and Geneva Joy Sloan in Detroit Lakes, MN. Gerald attended school in Detroit Lakes and started working early in life.  He married Irene Thompson on May 29, 1953, in Moorhead, MN, and celebrated 67 years of marriage this past year.

Red was a mechanic 29 years at Fairmont Foods in Moorhead, MN  as a mechanic and shop foreman.   Later in life he worked at Hall GMC and was the lead pilot for Dynamic Homes.

Red loved the outdoors and helping others. He was a founding member of the Height of Land Sportsmen’s Club and spent many hours giving back the area.  He loved his spear house and would spend countless hours on the lake ice fishing.  When he wasn’t on the lake he could be found deer hunting. Red was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion, and Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. He played Santa for many years alongside Irene as Mrs. Claus.

Preceding him in death are his parents George and Geneva Sloan and siblings Adeline Gordon, Margaret Krenelka, Athrelda Brickson, Rose Marie Wallgren, and Norbert Sloan.

Gerald will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Due to covid, the family will hold  a private service for immediate family that will be live streamed.

The family would like to thank Ecumen of Detroit Lakes for their compassionate care of Red.  He will be dearly missed. Any memorials in honor of Gerald can be made to the Parkinson Research Foundation.
