He was an active member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Eagles in Detroit Lakes—communities where camaraderie and shared purpose brought people together. These affiliations reflected Gordy's enduring commitment to fellowship and civic engagement. Gordy was an avid sports fan while also participating in softball, bowling, and playing Bingo.
Family was at the heart of Gordy's life. They are lovingly remembered by his son, Jay Martinson; daughter, Bobbi Jo Lacrosse; and seven grandchildren who carry forward their legacy. Gordy is also survived by siblings Teddy Martinson, Don Martinson, and Darcy Barber, and two nephews.
