Harry Bickel

Harry F. Bickel age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died January 20, 2019 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Harry F. Bickel was born March 2, 1936 in Ulen, MN to Herbert and Hilda (Hogenson) Bickel. He grew up and attended school in Ulen. He later moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where on October 19, 1957 he was united in marriage to Donna Erickson. They made their home and raised their family in Detroit Lakes. Harry worked as a Milkman for Fairmont Foods for many years. He later worked for Picture Rock and SJ Electro Systems in Detroit Lakes until his retirement. Harry enjoyed music and played Fiddle and Guitar in the band “The Country Boys” for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his dogs. He farmed and raised cattle. He also had horses that he showed and broke, both for himself and others. He is survived by two daughters, Lori (Doyle) Thompson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Carrie (Charlie) Amundson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; two granddaughters, Mandy (Kelly) Jastram; and Jena (Joe) Bottrell; one great granddaughter, Taya Jastram; one sister, Shirley Davies, of TX; many nieces and nephews; and his dog “Beaver.” He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (1993); six sisters, Norma Bickel, Virgie Lien, Vera Ashmore, Ellen Lien, Avis Ashmore, and Medora Hogetvedt; and his parents. Memorial Services will be held on Friday January 25, 2019; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
