Helen Louise Dibley

On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, Helen Louise Dibley passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.

Helen Louise Dibley was born May 21, 1935, in Alabama, one of 9 children born to Callaway & Neva (Boswell) Payton. Helen grew up and lived in Oxford until she met the love of her life Ken. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1953. They moved to Wolverton, MN in 1955 and started farming and building their family. In 1964 they moved to a farm North of Audubon. This is where Helen’s green thumb shown through in her beautiful flower beds and gardens. She made the best pickles and canned goods. Helen loved cooking and baking. Her family will forever miss her home-cooked meals and desserts.  Some of her family favorites included her homemade turkey gravy, chocolate cake, banana bread, minute steak, biscuits and gravy, potato salad, tuna salad, oyster stew & Christmas cookies.

Helen spent her working years as a cook at the Audubon School & Audubon Supper Club. She was also a caregiver and a homemaker.

Helen loved collecting bells from her and her family’s travels. Anytime someone went on vacation they always remembered to bring a bell back.

Helen was a doting mom, grandma, and great grandma who loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

Helen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ken, her 3 children: Bob (Sharon) Dibley of Audubon, Keith Dibley of Hawley, Kim (Mark) Erickson of Lake Park; 11 grandchildren: Chad (Jill) Dibley, Cassie (Chris) Dagenais, Nicole (Matt) Fulton, Tina (Brenton) Newling, Jeremiah Critt, Eric (Crystal) Dibley, Jennifer Dibley, Nathan (Julie) Dibley, Alicia Dibley, Ryan Dibley, and Andrew Erickson; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; Brothers: Robert (Sharon) Payton, & Kenneth (Judy) Payton; Sister: Susan (Jimmy) Wiggins.

Preceding Helen in death were her parents, brothers; Benny Payton, Calloway “Junior” Payton, James Payton; Sister Marie McDowell, and infant sister.

Helen’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2022, at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Private Family Interment will be held at 1st Lutheran Church Cemetery in Audubon.
