Helen L. Mitchell age 96 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 20, 2019 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Helen Luella Mitchell was born September 10, 1922 in rural Pelican Rapids, MN to Elmer and Emma (Larson) Paulson. The family farmed in the Cormorant Lake area and Helen attended country school. She later attended Pelican Rapids High School. On February 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Gordon A. Mitchell in Detroit Lakes, MN. They farmed and raised their family near Detroit Lakes. Helen’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes for many years. She was a 4-H leader and never missed a judging day at the fair, watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren showing their livestock. She was a member of the Bonnie Birthday Club. She was also an avid baker, flower gardener, and animal lover. She loved traveling and spending winters in Arizona during retirement. She is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn Schneekloth, of Plentywood, MT; Barbara (Gary) Schlauderaff, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Rebecca (Dennis) Seim, of Schererville, IN; one son, Judson (Vicki) Mitchell, of Washington, IL; twenty six grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; four sisters, Emma Hanson, Grace Larson, Pearl Peterson, and Joyce (Richard) Duffney; two daughters in law, Gloria Mitchell and Melissa Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; two sons, Harold Mitchell and Richard Mitchell; two grandsons, Aaron Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell; two sisters, Edna Dunham and Lillian Beecher; two brothers, George Paulson and Everett Paulson; son in law, Robert Schneekloth; and her parents.
