Herbert Merle Olson

A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Herbert Olson, 90, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully at his home September 5, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born December 9, 1930 to Emil and Annie Olson. He attended school in Pelican Rapids, MN, graduating in 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean war and received an honorable discharge in 1954. Herbert was introduced to his wife, Shirley by his sister Helen Marsh. They were married in 1956 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, MN and most recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was employed by Snappy’s until 1966, then taking a position with the MN Department of Transportation until his retirement in September 1992. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Loren Olson and sisters, Elaine Scheer, Helen May Olson, and Karen Olson. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons Steven (Jodi) Olson, Tom (Nancy) Olson, Mark (Melanie) Olson, daughter Kim (Charles) Moore, siblings David Olson, Gwen Jorgenson, Helen Marsh; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren.
