James (Jim) Paul Gottenborg, age 59, died on August 11, 2026, at Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Jim was born on July 26, 1967, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the oldest of the 3 children, to Carol A. Gottenborg and James I. Gottenborg. He attended school in Audubon, graduating in 1985, and then attended 1 year at NDSU in Fargo, ND.

In high school, he enjoyed being on the football team, one-act play and being an honor roll student in Audubon. He operated Gottenborg Grocery from 1986 to 1999 with his brother Gregory T. Gottenborg.

Jim was a very active member in Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as treasurer, custodian, elder, sexton of cemetery, secretary treasurer of circuit 8 Spring Conference. Jim was a man of Christian faith who believed in the Lord and eternal life. He found strength in his relationship with the Lord and left his love, faith, and cherished memories behind. We find peace in knowing he is now resting in the arms of his Savior. He worked at Becker County Courthouse for 20 years.

He is survived by his Mother Carol, his siblings Gregory (Tiffany), Krista (Kyler), and his niece Taylor. He is preceded in his death by his Father James Sr. in 2021. Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 18th at 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
