James L. Hass

James L. Hass, age 79 of Audubon, Minnesota died on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

He was born on December 11, 1940 to Lester and Mildred (Duffy) Hass in Winona, Minnesota. He grew up in Winona County and attended school in Ridgeway, Minnesota. In 1954, the family moved to rural Audubon. James graduated from Audubon High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Lois Bergerson on April 23, 1958. They made their home in Winona for two years before moving back to Audubon in 1960.

He then attended the Detroit Lakes Vocational and Tech College, where he was enrolled in the Farm Management Program. James worked in construction until he began farming in 1962, on the farm where he and Lois currently reside. He milked cows for 42 years.

James loved visiting and being helpful to others. He served on the Audubon Elevator Board and on the Audubon School Board for 25 years. He was a member of The Dairy Herd Association and First Lutheran Church of Audubon. James enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.

James leaves behind his loving wife, Lois; daughters, Wanda Schlauderaff of Fargo, ND, Kelly (Dale) Jenson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Barb (Jim) Jenson of Lake Park, MN; sons, Dennis (Kathy) Hass of Frazee, MN, Tom (Marie) Hass of Nevis, MN, Kevin Hass of Moorhead, MN, Tim (Jeanne) Hass of Park Rapids, MN; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Eileen (James) Griffnow of Detroit Lakes and brother-in-law, George (Jan) Brown of Lewiston, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary Brown.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00am on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the First Lutheran Church in Audubon, MN. Visitation will be from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 4:30pm at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will take place at the Hamden Cemetery in the spring.
