Jason J. Olson, age 53, of Audubon, MN, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 12, 2025, at his home.
Jason was born on July 21, 1971, in Staples, MN, to Thomas and Carol Olson. He grew up in Grand Portage, MN, surrounded by a big, loving family and lifelong friends. Jason later moved to Detroit Lakes, where he graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. He went on to attend Minnesota State University and Technical College, earning his degree as an Architectural Draftsman. He proudly built his career at Crane Johnson Lumber Co. in Fargo, ND, where his attention to detail and work ethic were admired by many.
In August 2001, Jason began his journey with his wife, Jennifer Petersen in Detroit Lakes, MN., later married, on May 30, 2013. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and small-town charm, raising their two children, Zachary and Izabella. Jason loved being a dad more than anything, and in recent years, becoming a grandfather to little Maggie was one of his greatest joys.
He had a heart for simple pleasures—Saturday night grill-outs with neighbors, endless games of cornhole, cheering for Dale Earnhardt Jr. on race day, watching NDSU football, following Carson Wentz, catching as much college basketball as possible, and always making sure he was working on four different projects at once. He loved 3D printing, driving and tinkering with RC cars, and wood-burning intricate designs, always finding a way to make something creative and unique. Jason had a quick wit, a big laugh, and a way of making everyone feel welcome.
Jason is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Lynn Olson; his children, Zachary (Zach) Olson and Izabella (Izzy) Olson; his granddaughter, Maggie Olson; his brothers, Kevin Olson and Ed Ryden; his sisters, Tommie Sue Olson and Terri Leslie; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Carol Olson, and his baby sister, Angel Marie Olson.
Jason will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty to the people he loved, and the countless memories he created with family and friends. His laugh, his stories, and his love for life will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Please join us in celebrating Jason’s life on August 3rd, 2:00-4:00 pm at the Lake Park American Legion. Bring yourself and lots of stories to tell.
