Jeannette Marion Johnson

Jeannette M. Johnson, age 87 of Detroit Lakes, passed away on November 10, 2019 in Fargo, North Dakota. She was born on January 11, 1932 in Hawley, Minnesota to Olga and Leonard Jeral. Jeannette attended Keen County Country School, Hawley, Callaway Public Schools, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Jeannette was baptized at Lysne Lutheran Church and confirmed a member of Lysne Lutheran Church. During her first marriage to Joseph Janecek II, Jeannette lived in various parts of the US and Europe due to Joseph’s military service.  They later returned and made their home in Detroit Lakes.  In 1973, Jeannette married Harland Johnson. Jeannette was very active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eagle’s Club. Jeannette was president of both affiliations and at last was treasurer of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.   Jeannette was a member of the Eastern Star and DAV (Disabled American Vet).  She spent a great amount of time volunteering at the Veteran’s Hospital.   Jeannette enjoyed crocheting and knitting many baby caps and blankets that were donated to hospitals.  Jeannette also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, gardening, baking, playing cards and woodworking.  She created many birdhouses and feeders. The Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins were Jeannette’s favorite sports teams to watch over the years. Jeannette is survived by her sisters-in-law, Elsie Jeral, Juanita Jeral, Audrey Jeral; daughter-in-law, Cher Janecek and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Harland Johnson; sons, Joseph Janecek III, Gary Janecek, and David Janecek; brothers, Leonard O Jeral, Oscar Jeral, Erling Jeral, Andrew Jeral and Edward Jeral; sister-in-law, Judith Jeral and other nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00am at West-Kjos Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.
