Julian Omberg

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Julian Edsel Omberg was born June 8, 1930 on the family farm near Cormorant, Minnesota, the son of Julius and Ella (Ness) Omberg. He passed away November 12, 2021 at The Cottages in Detroit Lakes. He was baptized and confirmed at Solem Lutheran Church, Julian grew up in Cormorant and graduated from Lake Park high school. Julian served his country in the U.S. Air Force receiving his honorable discharge in 1955. On June 6, 1953 Julian was united in marriage to Eloise Olson in Reno, Nevada. To this union three sons were born. They made their home in Audubon, and Hopkins before returning to Detroit Lakes. Julian managed service stations and was a milk man before starting his career as a parts and service manager for Lakes Ford, A&B Supply and Hedahls. Julian was a member of the Jaycees, Elks and Eagles Clubs and was very active at First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting including duck, pheasant, grouse, moose and deer. The main event being the comradery and storytelling at the deer camp for over 50 years. He had a passion for walleye fishing claiming to have fished most all of the lakes in Becker and Ottertail counties with yearly trips to Lake of the Woods and Canada. Retirement provided lots of time for camping and traveling enjoying many of the national parks west of the Mississippi as well as going south in the winter to the Gulf Shores in Alabama. Julian was a woodworker making tables, chests, frames and pouting chairs that were gifted to almost everyone in the family. Living on Floyd Lake for close to 50 years, Julian and Eloise looked forward to every visit from friends, family and especially the grandchildren as they grew. He is survived by his sons: Stuart (Kathy) Omberg of Detroit Lakes; Lee (Karen) Omberg of Perham; grandchildren: Nick (Stacey) Omberg, Kris (Fiancé, Dustin Wirth) Swenson, Benjamin (Madison) Omberg, Karlee (Jake) Werner; great grandchildren: Mason and Mya Omberg, Presley Swenson, Easton Gravelle, Kinsey, Haden, Jade, and Jenna Wirth, Alex, Michael, and Ella Werner; sister: Elyda Handegard Julian was preceded in death by his parents: Julius and Ella Omberg; wife: Eloise Omberg in 2016; son: Steven Omberg in 2018.
