Kari Ann Syvertson, 56, passed away on Friday, September 25th, 2026. Kari was a beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend. Born on December 22, 1969, in Detroit Lakes, MN, Kari was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. Kari was born to Larry and Ruth Engen and grew up in the Detroit Lakes area. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School before attending Fergus Falls Community College, earning her Associate's Degree in Accounting. Over the years she worked for multiple trucking firms in the area including Fed Ex Freight, R & R Transportation, and TLC. She worked in Bookkeeping, Dispatching, and Garnishments, where she was known for her dedication and friendly demeanor. On June 21, 2008 she was united in marriage to John Syvertson. They made their home in Fargo, ND for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes in 2010.

Kari loved to read, and amazed everyone who knew her with her ability to multi task while reading. She was known for her Special K bars and her Mac Salad. She was a real people person and enjoyed being at the Little Toad Lake Campground with her “Lake Family.” She also cherished the time spent with her family, as witnessed by the time spent with her grandchildren, and her enjoyment in attending her daughter Marie’s sporting events. Whatever she did and wherever she went, Kari was known to have a smile on her face. Kari's warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family will be profoundly missed. She will live on forever in our hearts, and as we say our goodbyes, we honor the cherished memories we hold close and the lasting impact she made on those fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband, John; four daughters, Katelyn, Marie, Mande (Jesse) Shipman, and Ashley (Zach); four grandchildren, Colden, Emberly, Conrad, and Jagger; two brothers, Wade (Linda) Engen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Brad (JoAnna) Engen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Brother in law, Michael (Susan) Syvertson, of Lake Park, MN; nieces and nephews, Cole, Bella, Tanner, Jackson, Danica, Bentley, and Harley; numerous other family and friends, Lifelong friend, Bobbi Mercil, and her beloved cats, Walter and Little Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Ruth Engen; and her father and mother-in-Law, Donald and Ardis Syvertson.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
