Lavada Hanson

April 21, 1940 — March 17, 2018

Lavada Hanson was born April 21, 1940 in Crookston, Minnesota the daughter of Ed and Sylvia (Frisbie) Schipper. She passed away Saturday March 17, 2018 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing home in Detroit Lakes. She was baptized at the Church of Christ, grew up and attended school in Crookston.  Lavada continued her education at Minnesota Bible College and latter Texas Christian University. She later graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Home Economics. Lavada taught home economics in North Dakota before moving back to Crookston in 1977 to help care for her mother. She worked at the Crookston public library and returned to education, teaching home economics in Oklahoma and North Dakota before retiring to Detroit Lakes in 2005 to be closer to family. She spent her retirement years playing the piano and organ, quilting for herself and the church and spoiling her grandchildren. Lavada enjoyed traveling and was active in the LWML and the local Eastern Star Chapter. Lavada is survived by her daughter: Kristine Meyer of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren: Alli Meyer of Fargo; Anthony Meyer of Fargo; sister-in-laws: June, Walda and Audrey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Sylvia, brothers: Burl, Dale, and Vance Schipper; and nephews: Scott and Todd Schipper.
