Laverne Paul Muzik was born June 7, 1942 in Alexandria, Minnesota the son of Thomas and Lillian (Kalina) Muzik. He passed away at his home in Detroit Lakes.
He grew up and attended school in Alexandria graduating from Jefferson High School. Laverne proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy, receiving his honorable discharge in 1964. During his time in the Navy he served as an aircrew member doing search and rescue in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuba Missile Crisis.
Laverne returned to Alexandria to serve as director, production manager, and operations manager for KCMT Television. He was later promoted to station manager after the station merged with WCCO.
He later worked as the President of Dynamic Homes, before beginning his career in real estate where he was owner and operator of 1st United Realty until his retirement in 2009.
Laverne was a member of the American Legion, VFW and National Rifle Association. He was past president of Trinity Lutheran Church of Holmes City, Oscar Lake Lutheran and Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. He also served on the board of directors and was past president of the Lakes Association of Realtors.
He is survived by his children: Doug Muzik, Kristi (Mark) Schiller, Joe (Rachel) Muzik. Josh (Anna) Muzik; grandchildren: Torri Muzik, Max Muzik, Joe Schiller, Lily Schiller, Ali Muzik, Ryan Muzik, Thomas Muzik, Hoyt Muzik, Kora Muzik, Knox Muzik; siblings: Shirla (Sandy) Hanson, Bonnie Muzik, Linda (Dennis) Martinek.
Laverne was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Lillian Muzik; sister: Ruby Schumacher; brother: Thomas Muzik.
