Layden Roy
Jacobson
Apr 23, 1944 — May 14, 2026
Layden Roy Jacobson, age 82, of Audubon, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026.
Layden was born on April 23, 1944, in Ada, MN, to Walter and Beatrice Jacobson. He spent his early years in Hendrum, MN, where he attended school before moving with his family to Audubon, MN, in 1960. There, he completed his education and graduated from Audubon High School in 1962.
Layden proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to Audubon and worked alongside his father in the family construction business. He also spent a short time driving truck for International Transport.
On June 7, 1968, Layden married the love of his life, Hope. Together they built a life in Audubon and raised their family alongside Hope’s children, Cyndi and Rand. Layden began working at the Audubon Co-Op Elevator, where he dedicated over 50 years of hard work, friendship, and service to the community.
Layden was a true outdoorsman at heart. Hunting and fishing were not simply hobbies to him — they were a way of life. He enjoyed hunting deer, elk, fox, coyote, and waterfowl, and he especially cherished time spent at the family deer camp, affectionately known as “The Norwegian Pine.” The camp became a special gathering place filled with stories, laughter, and traditions shared with family and friends.
He was a longtime member of the Cormorant Sportsman’s Club and proudly served for many years as a firearms safety instructor, helping teach and mentor others. Layden also enjoyed trapshooting and reloading his own ammunition. In addition to his many passions, he devoted years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Audubon Fire Department, always willing to help others when needed.
Above all, Layden will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet kindness, quick-witted sense of humor, contagious laugh, love of family, and deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple moments in life.
Layden is survived by his two brothers, Tom (Diane) Jacobson of Audubon, MN, and Parry (Sharon) Jacobson of Audubon, MN; his stepdaughter, Cyndi (Greg) Qualley of Lake Park; his stepson, Rand (Mark) Allrich of Fargo; four grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Rosing of Audubon, MN, Lacy (Kyle) Fuglesten of Newnan, GA, Kayla (Samuel) Jones of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Katie (Joseph) Fuller of Fargo, ND; and seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Myah, Cole, Kennedy, Isaac, Lucas, and Max.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hope; his sister, Sandra Olson; his brother, Wayne Jacobson; and his parents, Walter and Beatrice Jacobson.
