Lee Mickelson

Lee C. Mickelson, 74, longtime Curry Avenue resident, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 22, 2024, at his home in Detroit Lakes.

Lee was born in Detroit Lakes on August 19, 1948, a son of the late Ellsworth G. and Merriam (Nordlund) Mickelson.  He attended local schools and was a 1966 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School.  He went on to attend Detroit Lakes Vocational School and was soon after called to serve his country during the Vietnam Conflict.  He proudly served in the US Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1969.

Lee worked in construction for much of his life, spending many years at Nodsle Construction.  He was a quiet man who enjoyed being home.

Lee is survived by his sons: Eric (Rhoda Jackson) Mickelson, of Pequot Lakes, MN and Jason “Jake” Mickelson of Park Rapids, MN.  He also leaves his grandchildren: Willow, Xander and Cody Mickelson, and Taylor (Nolan) Archer.  He also leaves three great-grandchildren: Elly, Bran and Dekelan, as well as nieces and nephews. 

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brothers: Mitchell and Michael and a sister, Kandy Wheelden.

The memorial service for Lee will be held at West-Kjos Funeral Home, 900 Summit Avenue, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2 PM.  Memorial visitation will be one hour prior. Final rest will be private.
