Leona “Jane” Deike

October 8. 1942 – November 27. 2021

Jane died unexpectedly in her home doing what she loved to do, spending time with family and cooking for them, surrounded by love.

She was the second of three daughters born to Norris & Lois Phares in Springfield, Ohio.  She grew up on the farm working along side her Dad driving tractor & milking cows.  She even knew Elvis before he was famous, and he once came to pick up the family in his Cadillac to go to his concert after he was.

In 1960 she graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson High School.  In December 1960 she married Gary Ullery and together they had two children, Pam & Scott.  In 1968 the family moved from Ohio to Osage, MN. Jane helped run the family resort, worked at Doc’s Café, Con’s Hardware, & Ace Hardware in Park Rapids.  Gary & Jane divorced in 1978.

In 1979 she met the love of her life and soulmate Dick Deike. They bought a little farm north of Detroit Lakes where they continued to raise and show Arabian horses along side Dick’s daughter Tammy.  Jane also worked at Wisted Hardware Hank for many years and could help farmers fix almost anything.  She loved her hardware and could see plumbing in her head.

Dick & Jane did almost everything together from horses, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.  Then they found Blackpowder Rendevous and a new passion for the lifestyle, people, and community which Jane continued to enjoy even after Dicks passing with the love and help of her Rondy Family.

In 2014 Dick passed away and the loss was tremendous but that didn’t stop her or hardly slow her down.  She just opened her arms a little wider and brought in more people to love, be there for, cook for, and give them a hug.

Granny Jane (Mom) was a strong, smart, beautiful, loving woman who never knew a stranger.  Her capacity to love and bring joy and spunk will be greatly missed by all that loved her.

Her legacy to love will be continued by her sisters, Nancy Weatherhead & Cheryl Stephans and their families.  Her children, Pam (Kenny) Holgate, Scott Ullery, & Tammy (Todd) Johnson

Her grandchildren, Andrea (Levi) Yliniemi, Amanda (Neil) Aho, Kris Holgate-Swanson, Nichole Ullery-Hanson, Mitch Ullery, and Kenton (Rachael) Johnson.  Her great-grandchildren, Haylee, Addi, Brody, Tahlin, Lydia, Silas, Holden, Flynn, Darius, Mason, Jak, Ailey, Grace, Kenly, Catlin, Chelsea, & Darren.  Her special friend Rollie, her Rondy Family, her Heart Family, and all that she touched with her love and laughter.

No words can fully pay tribute or express the loss with her passing, but she did not leave us.  Hang on to her love and memories, draw strength from her spunk, find laughter from her just being “Granny Jane” and remember she is still with us so “Suck it up Buttercup”.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later day.
