Leonard LeRoy Arant was born May 17, 1918 in Union, Oregon, the son of Ernest and Wanda (Haller) Arant. He passed away December 2, 2017 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He grew up in and attended school in Union, and served his country in the United States Army during WWII. In 1930 He was united in marriage to Helen May. They raised their family of six children in Forest Grove. Leonard worked as a carpenter in Oregon and California specializing in rafter making. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to old country western music. Leonard liked to play tennis and basketball, and watching Twins baseball games. He especially enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and bingo at the nursing home. Leonard moved to Detroit Lakes from Bend, Oregon with his friend Rita Kieninger. After Rita passed away he moved into Essentia Health-Oak Crossing. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Schulz of Anaheim, Ca; grandchildren: Jessica, Roger, and Brian; brother: Gene (NIita) Arant of Salem, Oregon. Leonard was preceded in death by his children: Carol and William; and siblings: Marion, Eileen, Ernestine, and Lorita.
