LeRoy A. Berg

LeRoy Alfred Berg, age 87, of Detroit Lakes Minnesota passed away on Friday July 13th, 2018.  LeRoy was born on September 29th, 1930 in Grand Forks North Dakota to Alfred and Mamie (Larson) Berg. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School with the class of 1948. He enlisted in the National Guard and proudly served in Korea. On October 17th, 1952 he was united in marriage to Pearl (Mickey) Nyland at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage and three children. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes for many years of which were spent on Long Lake where he enjoyed fishing and water skiing. LeRoy worked alongside his father Alfred and brother Gene “Bud” Berg as part owner and mechanic at Berg Auto Electric.  In 1977 he opened LeRoy Berg, Inc. and specialized in repair of carburetors alternators and starters. Upon retirement in 1995, Mickey and LeRoy enjoyed times in Arizona traveling to Australia, Hawaii and Alaska as well as trips with Ed and Kathy Nyland to Florida and Scandinavia in which a visit to Finland was a highlight of the trip. LeRoy was a steadfast member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 15 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 1676) in Detroit Lakes. He loved to be in the woods with his wife Mickey, and entire family along with his faithful dogs. Fishing in Canada and on Long Lake, duck hunting in North Dakota or at Misty Meadow along with deer hunting with family were memorable times. His sense of humor and positive outlook on life were a great joy and comfort to his family. He loved to repair toys, swap mowers or negotiate a deal on a boat. LeRoy is survived by his children, Deb (Bill) Ormseth, Dan (Sheri ) Berg and Diane (Jim) McCormack, all of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren, Ryan Ormseth, Chris (Nate) Gerdes, Stephanie (Dan) Morrison, Ashley (Tyson) Lund, Courtney (Cody) Boucher, Kathryn McCormack and Carolyn (Michael)Ellis and eight great grandchildren and Sister Francis (Charles) Scheel of Clinton, WA. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Mickey (Pearl); sister Loraine Winnifred Berg and brother Gene “Bud” Berg.
