Lester Bryon Kiehl was born on October 27, 1930, to Irene (Glawe) and Fred Kiehl on a farm in rural Ogema, MN. He attended country schools in Detroit Lakes and Audubon. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. on April 16, 1952, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Mary Ellingson on September 6, 1952, together they shared 72 years of marriage filled with hard work, dedicated to the farm life and their family.
Lester worked for the Dakota and Madison Silo Companies before purchasing a farm south of Audubon, where they farmed and milked cows until retiring in 2000. After retiring, they traveled to Alaska to visit family and of course fish.
Lester enjoyed deer hunting but fishing was his favorite thing to do, he would tell you what fish he caught on every lake and what fish everyone else in the family caught too.
Lester is survived by his children; Gloria (Douglas), Kathy, Lester Jr. (Brenda), Jim (Amanda), and Joe, eleven grandchildren; Jeremie, Tony, Twyla, Keith, Krystal, Lester III, Holly, Angela, Faith, Tim and Meghan. Twenty-four great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, two sisters; Helen and Evelyn (Herman) both of Washington, four nieces and eight nephews.
Preceding him in death are his wife Mary in 2024, his parents, brothers; Charles, Harvey, and Richard and sisters; Leona and Florence and one nephew.
