Lois Orner

December 6, 1938 — February 24, 2024

Lois M. (Glawe) Orner, 85, Detroit Lakes, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital following a period of declining health.  Her family was at her side.

Lois was born in Boston, MA on December 6, 1938, a daughter of the late Martin and Marion (Sunbury) Glawe.  The family came to the Detroit Lakes area when Lois was a young girl, and at the age of 12, she met who would become the love of her life, Elwood.  Lois and her family moved back to Massachusetts, and Elwood followed.  The two were married on June 30, 1958, in South Weymouth, MA.

After several years of living in Massachusetts, the family, which now included four children, moved back to Detroit Lakes.  Together they owned and operated Country Campground in Lakeview TWP.  Lois was a dedicated and devoted wife and mother.  Her love of family went on to include grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Lois had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus.  She was a longtime member of Detroit Lakes Seventh-day Adventist Church.  She taught children’s Sabbath School, and could always be counted on to provide food for many church occasions. In her free time, Lois enjoyed ceramics, puzzles and diamond painting. She enjoyed reading about Amish life by Beverly Lewis.  She also had a great love of nature, wildlife and all animals, and took great pleasure out of tending to flower beds around her home.  She will be immensely missed.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband and care giver, Elwood, of over 65 years; her children: Deborah (Richard) Janzen, Edward (Heidi) Orner, Karen (Todd) Mitchell and Kevin (Marsha) Orner, all of Detroit Lakes; her grandchildren: Janelle (Yoga) Damalachervu, Jacob (Adrianna) Conway, David (Michaela) Orner, Sarah (Jason) Perrone, Heidi (Zach) Wheeler, Hillary (Matt) Buschette, Hannah (Cameron) Kerns, Hope and Hailey; her great-grandchildren: Ezekiel, Elias, Taylor, Kailynne, and Sarah.  She also leaves her siblings: Marjorie (the late Raymond) Carasetti, Marcia (Fred) Thompson and Charles (Karen-Ann) Glawe.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson, Calvin Orner.

A memorial service for Lois will be held at Detroit Lakes Seventh-day Adventist Church, 404 Richwood Road, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Sherman McCormick officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior at Noon.  Final rest will be private.

Lois’ children would like to recognize their dad, Elwood for his outstanding care of their mother.  His love for her will forever be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family to establish a wildlife and nature preserve near Lois’ home.
