It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lorraine Ann Moses on December 28, 2025, at Ecumen - Emmanuel Nursing Home. Born on August 3, 1934, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Lorraine embraced life and enriched all those fortunate enough to know her.
Lorraine was a strong figure in both her family and community, demonstrating remarkable dedication throughout her career as a Secretary at State Farm Insurance, a role that gradually evolved into a Claims Adjuster for the company. She not only balanced work and home-life, but enjoyed family gatherings and game nights.
Lorraine laid the foundations of her education at Washington Elementary School, ultimately graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1952. She went on to become a member of the local Eagles Club and the Secretary of the Bowling League.
In her personal life, Lorraine and her husband, Jay Moses, shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and created countless cherished memories. Their married life began in Virginia while Jay served in the NAVY, later returning to Detroit Lakes in 1956, where they made their home. Lorraine was a devoted woman of faith and a life-long member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Her personal interests reflected a vibrant spirit: she found joy in bowling, sewing her children’s clothes, as well as fishing and gardening, dancing and country music, and finishing Jay’s woodworking projects. With a love for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, she also enjoyed the simple pleasures of Candy Crush, trips to the casino, bingo, and enjoying summers with family and friends at Loon Lake. She also loved to play cards and host family gatherings at her home.
Lorraine's legacy is woven with love and pride as she leaves behind daughters Joan Moses [Rick Anderson], Kathy [Rob] Bope, her son Tom [Brenda] Moses and daughters, Sue Moses [Danielle Charbonneau] and Julie [Ken] Mattson; her sister Mae Steffen and her treasured grandchildren: Kristi [Dave] Olson, Chad [Ashley] Moses, Abby [Dan] Senkbeil, Jacob Mattson, and Teresa Mattson. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Nick [Carrie] Bope and Bryan Bope [Chuck Milton], and welcomed great-grandchildren Connor and Addi Olson, Riley and Theodore Moses, Greyson Senkbeil, and Benta and Elin Bope.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband Jay, her son Jeffery Scott Moses, her sister Marie Buckman, and her parents Fred and Tracy [Kinnen] Eidenschink. The loving bonds that Lorraine nurtured during her lifetime remain unbroken, as her family and friends remember her with fondness and gratitude.
The family invites all who knew Lorraine to join in the celebrations of her life. Visitation will occur on January 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at West Kjos Funeral Home, including a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on January 3, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, culminating in a Mass at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow at the Detroit Lakes VFW.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home for their dedicated work and compassionate care for Lorraine. As we bid her farewell, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, dedicated to family, and adorned with many proud accomplishments. Her spirit will continue to echo in the lives she touched, reminding us to carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion.
“And remember, take one day at a time.”
