Luella Shipman

Luella A. Shipman age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 19, 2018 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN. Luella Ann Shipman was born October 13, 1937 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Dallas and Vivian (Lusty) Lindsay. She grew up in rural Ogema, MN and attended country school near Strawberry Lake. She later graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. She then attended college in Minneapolis and worked for the Boy Scouts of America for a short time. She moved back to Detroit Lakes and worked at the Detroit State Bank. On December 31, 1960 she was united in marriage to Dean Shipman in Detroit Lakes. They farmed and raised their family in Erie Township. Luella enjoyed gardening, with raspberries being her favorite thing to grow. She was also very musical and enjoyed playing the autoharp and the piano. She is survived by one daughter, Kay Graham, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three sons, Calvin (Tamra) Shipman, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Eugene Shipman, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Jay (Daneele) Shipman, of Frazee, MN; eleven grandchildren, Joey Callahan, Kristin (Andrew) Schock, Amanda Callahan, Derek (Melissa) Shipman, Tiffany (Dustin) Oertwich, Jesse (Mande) Shipman, Kari (Kyle) Middendorf, Joshua Graham, Joanna Shipman, Carter Shipman, and Cassidy Shipman; ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Merlyn (Carol) Lindsay, LeRoy (Margaret) Lindsay, Duane (Lorraine) Lindsay, and Ervin (Juanita) Lindsay; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean (2015); grandson, Tyler Shipman; sister, Darlene Lindsay; and her parents. Funeral Services will be on Monday November 26, 2018; 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Interment will be in the Lake Region Mennonite Church Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
