On Wednesday February 24th, 2021, LuVern M. Seal, loving husband, and father passed away at the age of 91.
LuVern Martell Seal was born February 19th, 1930 in Sisseton, SD to Louis and Allie Seal. He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1948. He was drafted for the United States Army from 1951-1952 and was discharged due to a sick mother. Vern launched his career with Red Owl in Sisseton, SD in 1948 with managerial training program.
On June 23rd, 1954 he married Ruth Safgren, the girl next door. He moved with his family to many different Red Owl locations before settling in Detroit Lakes. Vern was a store manager for Wallin's Red Owl beginning in 1972. Vern was in the grocery store business for 44 years. In 1988, LuVern partnered with Lynn Schirmer, naming their store Vern and Lynn’s Red Owl.
Vern was very involved in the community which include the following: Scout master, Masons, Shriners-color guard, The Elks, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Becker County Fair committee member, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Chapter, and Board of First Lutheran Church. After he retired, he was a Becker County Commissioner for 10 years.
Vern’s hobbies included: golfing, hunting, traveling with his wife, and volunteering in the community.
Vern will be dearly missed by his family and friends, including his wife of 66 years Ruth, his two sons, Terry and Mark ; one brother Arlan (Lynn) Seal; two brother in laws; Gordon (Verle) Safgren, Harold (Shirley) Safgren; Grandchild: Tiffany (Jeremy) Olson, and great grandchildren: Kayla and Claire Olson.
