Peggy and her high school sweetheart Lyle were married on April 23, 1960 at the Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lyle and Peggy had four children; Michael, Lynn, Suzanne, and Michele. Peggy and Lyle had the A&W Drive-In restaurant from 1973-1982. Peggy was an amazing boss and mentor to many. Later, Peggy worked as the Food Service Director for the Detroit Lakes School District for 18 years and found great joy interacting with the school kids and advocating for healthy meals. Peggy was an active member of First Lutheran Church, serving as the Church Council President as well as serving on the Foundation Board. Peggy enjoyed going to plays and musicals, playing practical jokes, traveling and collecting dishes. Peggy was an avid bridge player whether that was with her friends or playing with Lyle in a couple’s bridge club. She loved going for walks, having coffee or entertaining. Her family praised her for being the best Thanksgiving cook, especially since she accomplished creating the entire meal by herself with ease and on time. Peggy had no greater love than to spend time with her family and in particular was an enthusiastic grandma! Deeply loved, Peggy’s passing will be mourned by her husband of 60 years Lyle, her children Michael Leegard, Lynn (Al Schmidt) Leegard, Suzanne (Erik) Osterberg, and Michele (Chris) Sagsveen, her grandchildren Cory, Athen, Jakob, Connor, Kate, and Ben. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Hildor and Edna, her brother and sisters and their spouses. She is also preceded in death by her loving daughter-in-law, Ann Leegard. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 14th from 4-7 p.m. at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15th at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN with a visitation one-hour prior.
