Margaret Marlene Prechel

Margaret “Marge” Prechel, 87, passed away peacefully November 7, 2025, at Pelican Landing, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Born December 9, 1937, in Springfield, MN, to Erhart and Lydia Krause, farmers in Comfrey. After graduating high school she became a nurse and ministered at the Redwood Falls Hospital. She married Eugene Prechel in 1957 and had 4 children, Janice, Lynda, Jolene and Steven. They were long-time members of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She served in the church and community in many ways.

In 1976 Marge and Gene made a bold move and bought Hoot Owl Resort, in the deep woods of the Waubun area, near Itasca State Park. They made many friends in the local area, and with vacationers and snowmobilers, enjoying their new home “up north.” Marge returned to nursing with Mahnomen County as a visiting nurse to those who were home-bound when they sold the resort in 1989. The essence of Marge was caring for others. She always brought a smile to those she met, always positive and encouraging, never complaining.

She is survived by her children, Jan (Joe), Lynda (Jim), and Steve, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Marge will be dearly missed by a host of family, friends and staff at Pelican Landing. She is preceded to heaven by her parents, Lydia and Erhart Krause, her husband, Eugene, and daughter, Jolene. Though we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the lasting impact she had on all of us.

A joint Celebration of Life – also honoring Dad, Eugene Prechel, her husband, who passed June 27th this year - will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at First Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation hour beginning at noon, followed by the Celebration of their life at Bucks Mill Brewing from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
