Mark A. Greenig age 68 of Detroit Lakes, MN died December 6, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Mark Anthony Greenig was born January 17, 1952 in St. Peter, MN to Carl and Vivian (Biehn) Greenig. He grew up and attended school in St. Peter, graduating from high school there. He then served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Following his discharge from the Army he attended Mankato State University where he earned his degree. He later returned to Mankato State, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Community Education. On December 9, 1972 he was united in marriage to Lois Whipple in Pipestone, MN. They made their home in St. Peter and Mark worked as the Community Education Director. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1979, when Mark took the job as Community Education Director there. He retired in 2007. Mark loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed wood carving. He carved many duck and fish decoys over the years. Mark will be widely remembered by many for his time at the Detroit Lakes Summer Rec Program. He is survived by his wife, Lois; one daughter, Mollie (Eric Becker) Greenig, of Crystal, MN; one son, Dustin (Sarah) Greenig, of Blaine, MN; two grandchildren, Vivian Greenig and Valerie Greenig; one sister, Paula (Jack) Granlund, of New Hope, MN; three brothers, Larry (Denise) Greenig, of St. Peter, MN; Whitey (Suzanne) Greenig, of St. Peter, MN; and Dean (Liz) Greenig, of Plymouth, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Scott Greenig and Grant Greenig. Memorial Services will be on Monday December 14, 2020; 1:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
