Marlene Joan Oppegaard, age 85, of Moorhead, formerly of Elbow Lake, died Thursday December 14, 2017, at Eventide in Moorhead. Marlene was born on June 20, 1932, at White Earth. She graduated from Waubun High School in 1950. She attended Concordia College and the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Marlene was united in marriage to Marvin Oppegaard on August 11, 1956, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway. In 1961, they moved to Elbow Lake where they lived until 2008. Marlene was a homemaker while she and Marvin raised their three sons in Elbow Lake. She was also a substitute teacher and later a nursing assistant. She was a member of United Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In Moorhead, Marlene enjoyed visiting with the other residents of Eventide and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She had a kind word to say about everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her siblings, MaryLou, Margaret, Robert, and Franklin. She is survived by her siblings, George Scherzer, Charles Scherzer, Howard Scherzer, Donna Donner, and David Scherzer; by her sons Mark (Heather), Dean (Jean), and Scott (Yvette); by her grandchildren Stacie, Tara, Damian, Kristopher, Stephen, Bjorn, Brynn, and Brita, great-granddaughters Rachel and Ameena, and great-great-grandson Trey.
