Marlo Sloan

Aug 9, 1956 — Sep 20, 2026

Marlo Gene Sloan, 70, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Sunday, September 20th, 2026.

Marlo was born August 9, 1956, to Gerald and Irene (Thompson) Sloan. He grew up in Moorhead, MN where he graduated from high school in 1974. He went on to Moorhead Technical College and graduated with a degree in Supermarket Management in 1976. He met the love of his life, Terri Matson and they were married on April 28th, 1979. They shared 47 years together where there was never a dull moment!

Marlo held several positions over his working career including 30+ years at Matson Oil Co. and 12 years at Key Contracting. He had been enjoying retirement for the last several years. Marlo’s great love of the outdoors was evidenced throughout his lifetime of volunteering with Twist of Fate, Height of Land Sportsman Club, NWTF, Ducks Unlimited, MN Hunters Education, MN Snowmobile Safety, misc. bear clinics and others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boat rides, and maple syrup production.

Anyone that knew Marlo knew that he had a gift of gab, stories from all times, and his passion for sharing those memories became part of who Marlo was. He would light up a room with laughs, give the shirt off his back for anyone in need, and truly was one of a kind. He touched so many people throughout his life and until his final days. The most important part of Marlo is his genuine and honest love for his wife Terri, the joy his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gave him, along with all family, and friends that were by his side through thick and thin. Marlo will never be forgotten, remembered for being Marlo, and will always have a special place in all our hearts. A one of a kind man.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Terri Sloan; his daughter Amy (Jason) Harrington, Sparta, TN, daughter Tanya Wheeler, Buffalo, MN, son Neil Sloan (Jen Gruss), N. Ft. Myers, FL; his grandchildren, Rebekah Harrington, Serenity (Tyler) Duckett, Danielle Harrington, Isaiah (Bella) Harrington, Verne Wheeler, Mason Wheeler; 2 great granddaughters; sister Kathy Sloan, brother Dallas (Diane) Sloan; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Irene Sloan.
