Marlys Pederson

Marlys Ann Pederson was born March 29, 1947 in New Ulm, Minnesota the daughter of Elford and Lydia (Damm) Schuette. She passed away Saturday January 1, 2022 at Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota after battling numerous health issues for the last few years.

Marlys lived in New Ulm as a child and grew up and attended school in Hutchinson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1965 and began working for 3M in Hutchinson.

On August 6, 1966 she was united in marriage to Gary Pederson at First Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. They made their home in Luverne and Braham before moving to Detroit Lakes. 

Marlys was a daycare provider for many years. She later worked at McDonalds, the K-Mart pharmacy, and at M&H. Marlys was a member of TOPS for over 30 years. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid reader. Marlys loved traveling to Mexico and often helped chaperone high school students with her husband Gary.

Marlys is survived by her husband: Gary Pederson; children: Chris Pederson and Carrie (Todd) Cain; grandchildren: Maddie, Carter, and Carson Cain; siblings: Stan (Linda) Schuette, Beverly (Steve) Freidrichs; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elford and Lydia Schuette; and a daughter Tonia who passed at birth.

A celebration of Marlys’ life will be held on April 2, 2022, at West-Kjos Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
