Mary R. Beitz

Mary R. Beitz age 64 of Detroit Lakes, MN died January 21, 2018 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Mary Rose Beitz was born November 18, 1953 in South Bend, Indiana to George and Vila (Kabat) Martin Sr. As a young girl they moved to La Crescent, MN where she grew up, received her education and eventually met Ray Hoover. Together they had a son, Jeremy and a daughter, Kristi. After her separation with Ray, she moved to St. Paul, MN. She attended college and earned her RN Degree. Following her graduation she moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where she worked in a Fiberglass Plant. Mary then met Dan Braton and they were married. With that union she had her son, Andy. During this time she lived in and raised her son Andy in Pelican Rapids. She later moved back to Detroit Lakes, where she met and married Cliff Oftelie. Together they had a son, Matthew. She lived in Detroit Lakes with her two sons and attended school at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, where she earned a degree in business. While in school she raised Andrew and Matthew and worked at the mall and the church. She met her husband Fred Bietz and were married in 1990. They made their home on a property on Highway 34 east of Detroit Lakes, where they lived for many years. She worked at the Emmanuel Nursing Home for over ten years. They later moved into town, where she enjoyed the rest of her life. Mary enjoyed gardening, wind chimes, scrapbooking, animals, being outside with Fred sitting on the patio, and playing with her grandchildren. She also was a published author of poetry, and played the Guitar and Piano. Over the years Mary fought a lot of illness, but kept smiling and living her life to the fullest. Mary is survived by her husband, Fred; four children, Matthew Oftelie, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Andrew (Aunna) Braton, of Dilworth, MN; Jeremy Hoover, of Fond du lac, WI; and Kristy Hoover, of Fond du lac, WI; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, George Martin Jr., of Denver, CO; Shawn Martin, of La Crescent, MN; and Chris Martin, of N. Carolina. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Corrine Martin.
