Maureen "Marcy" Miller

January 15, 1937 — November 19, 2017

Maureen “Marcy” Emilie Miller was born January 15, 1937 in Dickinson, ND the daughter of Clarence and Minnie (Cornelius) Thompson. At Essentia Health- St. Mary’s Hospital she went to be with Jesus early Sunday morning, November 19, 2017.Marcy spent her earliest years in Belfield, ND and later graduated from Oak Grove High School. She then continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she met the love of her life, Jim Miller.In August of 1955, she united in marriage to Jim in Belfield, ND. Upon their    union they built a family beginning with their two beloved daughters, Sonja and Marsha. Jim’s career in education kept them on the move for several years. While in Granite Falls, Marcy was very active at Granite Falls Lutheran Church.She then worked as a secretary at (SMSU) in Marshall before the family made Detroit Lakes their permanent home. She again worked as a secretary at First   Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, volunteered with Hospice, taught & led Sunday school, and was active in Bible study.She enjoyed needlepoint, fishing, ceramics, crossword puzzles and winning in both card and board games.  Marcy especially enjoyed music. She played piano and sang in the choir.  Family was a priority to Marcy.  She invited her older  grandchildren to stay with her and Grandpa for weeks at a time every summer.  She cared for her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s more than thirteen years, and provided a strong Christian foundation in God for her entire family.Marcy is survived by her daughters: Sonja Miller (Larry Rice) of Clearwater, FL; Marsha (Dennis) Erickson of Kennewick, WA; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother: Clarence “Sonny” Thompson of Belfield, ND; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Miller in March of 2015, parents: Clarence and Minnie Thompson; grandson: Christopher James Williams; and  sister: Darlene.
