Detroit Lakes

Maynard Keith Archer, 64, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Monday July 10th, 2023, in his home due to unknown causes.

Maynard was born on May 19th, 1959, in Fargo, ND, the fifth child born to Glenn and Lois (Abraham) Archer. He grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN. As a child he kept himself busy while his siblings made a whirlwind around him. In school, Maynard loved to play hockey and enjoyed woodshop. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1978.

Maynard spent most of his adult life working in construction, which he loved. In 1985, Maynard married Kristi Hunt. Together they had three children- Amanda, Olivia, and Nolan. He would always say his kids are the best things he ever helped make! Maynard and Kristi divorced in 1994. After suffering from a work accident later in life, Maynard was forced into early retirement.

The stories are endless with Maynard. He had the best sense of humor and always made sure you were laughing when you were with him. He was the master of sarcasm and one-liners, as well. It came naturally to him. Maynard loved his grandchildren more than anything. One of his favorite things to do was grow his hair and beard out to play Santa for them. Even through the pain, he would get on the floor, play with them, and continue to tell them all his crazy stories, which the kids of course loved! In his free time, Maynard loved to paint and woodwork. He was an amazing artist and craftsman. In elementary school, he renamed himself ‘Maynard the Great’, which he lived by to the end.

Maynard is survived by his daughter Olivia Archer, son Nolan (Taylor) Archer; brothers Arden Archer and Wayon Archer, sister Bonnie (Jim) Renner; grandchildren Ellyana, Branlee, and Deklan Archer; nephews Tony (Janell), Dylan, Ryan (Samantha); nieces Sarah (Tom), Casey (Mitch), Deyli (Bobby), Hallie; along with many great nieces and nephews.

Maynard was preceded in death by his daughter Amanda, his parents Glenn and Lois, brother Bill, sister Bernie, and niece Quinn.
