Nancy Pauline (Rivers) Wallace passed away peacefully October 15, 2023, at Ecumen Cottages in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. She was born March 10, 1939, in Canadian Texas, to William Horace and Mary Pauline (Cook) Rivers. She married Norrel Franklin Wallace June 7th 1959 in Canadian, Texas.
Nancy graduated from Canadian High School in 1957 as Valedictorian then attended Texas State University before graduating from Moorhead State University in 1979 Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Her love of learning and helping children led her to teaching the Title 1 program in the Fergus Falls Minnesota and Pickneyville Illinois school systems.
Her love of history was fulfilled when her husband was transferred to Concord NH and Woodbridge VA. Exploring the rich history of our country, she never failed to stop at a roadside history marker while exploring the east coast. While there she was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader while being involved in her church missions. Moving to Fergus Falls Minnesota in 1974 Nancy enjoyed working alongside her husband making maple syrup at their Sugar Bush near Ottertail Lake, gourmet club with friends and welcoming people in newcomers club. Nancy moved to Carterville Illinois in 1984 where she retired from teaching in 2002, traveled throughout Europe, Ireland, and enjoyed gardening, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, taught English, and repaired houses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Her hobbies were golfing, volunteering, crafts, skiing, sewing and reading. Nancy made many friends along the way with whom she kept in touch throughout the years.
Nancy is survived by her siblings Warren Rivers, Gordon (Patricia) Rivers, Mary (Ronnie) Gilbert, and Rilla (Ken) Ferguson; children Robin Sauer, April (Steven) Ianiro, and Benjamin Wallace; grandchildren Jeremy and Justin Sauer, Stefany (Tim) Alexander, Hannah (Gabe) Foltz, and Rachael (Ryan) Kalberer; Great grandchildren Aubree, Jackson, and Addison Alexander and beloved extended family members.
