Opal Sall

January 14, 1921 — March 29, 2019

Opal Lucille Sall was born January 14, 1921 in Marshall, Minnesota the daughter of Elmer and Ruby (Jaycox) Petersen. She passed away March 29, 2019 at Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. She was baptized in Marshall and moved to Wadena with her family.  She began working as a cook and house keeper for local farms following her school years. On July 7, 1941 Opal was united in marriage to Wilbur Foster in Little Falls. To this union eight children were born. They made their home in Leader where Opal cared for the house and raised the children as a devoted and caring homemaker. Wilbur passed away December 19, 1967 and Opal moved to Detroit Lakes.  On August 3, 1984, Opal married Einhart Sall. Opal worked at the Best Western in housekeeping for 30 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the Congregational United Church of Christ in Detroit Lakes. Opal enjoyed playing penny poker, going to the casino, and spoiling her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook who especially enjoyed preparing meals for her children and families. She is survived by her children: Duane (Liz Ahl) Foster of Salinas, California; Lloyd (Connie) Foster of Lake Shore, Minnesota; David Foster of Detroit Lakes; Mary (Jim) Vogel of Staples; Billy Foster of Detroit Lakes; Steve Foster of Detroit Lakes; Robert (Gail McDougal) Foster of Detroit Lakes; Roger Foster of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren: Jeff, Fay, Jackie, Brenda, Glen, Jennifer, Crystal, Jason, Carli, Robbie, Andrew, Nikki, Jessica, Chad; several great and great -great grandchildren; brother: Elmer and Marika Petersen of Richmond, WI; and other extended family and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer and Ruby, husband: Wilbur Foster; husband: Einhart Sall; grandson, Todd; and her siblings.
