In Loving Memory of Patricia Estelle Bollig
January 14, 1936 – November 18, 2024
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Estelle Bollig (Johnson), who peacefully left this world on November 18, 2024. Born on January 14, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, to Aldric and Esther (Nelson) Johnson, Patricia lived a life filled with love, dedication, and community spirit.
In 1945, Pat moved with her family to Lake Park, Minnesota, where she attended Country School #50 and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1953. A bright and determined young woman, she pursued her education at Detroit Lakes Business College, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Stenography.
On May 18, 1955, Pat married the love of her life, Jean Bollig, at Eksjo Lutheran Church near Lake Park. Their journey together began in Minneapolis before they returned to the Detroit Lakes area in 1956 and later settled in Gary, Minnesota, in 1961. There, they built a warm and vibrant life, raising their two sons, David and Steven.
A devoted member of the Gary Lutheran Church and an active participant in the Gary American Legion, Pat adored her community and took immense pride in supporting her sons’ athletic endeavors at Gary High School. Her love for community extended to her professional life, where she served as Secretary to the Superintendent at Gary Public Schools for 26 years, retiring in 1994. In 2004, Pat and Jean returned to their cherished lake home on Big Floyd Lake near Detroit Lakes, where she found endless joy in life at the lake and the company of loved ones.
A talented cook who lovingly celebrated her Swedish heritage, Pat delighted friends and family with her delicious creations, including her famous cookies, homemade lefse, and traditional lutefisk, always made with care and shared from the heart. Pat had a deep and abiding love for animals, finding joy in their companionship, and was known for always having a kind heart and open arms for any furry friend in need. She remained a devoted fan of Laker athletic events and proudly supported her grandchildren, Josh and Jamie Bollig, attending their soccer, baseball, football, and hockey games with unwavering enthusiasm.
Pat will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to family, and love of community. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff and caretakers at Pelican Landing and to St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes for their compassionate care, kindness, and support.
Her presence in our lives was a gift, and she will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband Jean and survived by her sons; David (Kathy) Bollig and Steven “Scutt” (Linda) Bollig, several grandchildren Kristin (Guy) Willeford, Erin (Mason) Buesgens, Josh Bollig, Jamie Bollig, and great grandchildren Bennett Buesgens and Walker Willeford.
