Paul Wesley Nelson was born May 5, 1937 in Grand Park Township, Becker County, Minnesota, the son of Ernest and Jenny (Larson) Nelson. He was born the day before the German airship “Hindenburg” exploded in Lakehurst, New Jersey. He passed away November 4, 2022 at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

He grew up on the family farm and attended country school near Richwood Township, then Holmes High School. Paul worked in carpentry, painting, doing pipeline construction, and grain bin building, and also did work with the United States Geological Survey.

On October 31, 1959 Paul was united in marriage to Ethel Sarvie at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and spending weekends on the Sarvie family farm.

Paul is survived by his son, Russel (Lori) Nelson; sister Ethel (Ted) Andrus; brother Dennis (Mary-Alice) Nelson; in-laws Donald (Charlotte) Sarvie, Mildred (Arnold) Blauert, Edwin Sarvie.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Jenny Nelson; wife Ethel Nelson in 2011; sister Irene Doten; brother Dean (Shirley) Nelson; brother-in-law Harold Sarvie.
